From Sautéing to Frying: Understanding Different Types of Pans for Cooking

When it comes to cooking, the kind of pan a person uses can make a significant difference. From sautéing to frying, each kind of pan has its significant characteristics and advantages. The ideal cookware always solves the customer pain points in the market such as —

  1. The inflexibility of using a heavy weight traditional cast iron pan which is hard to handle and heavy on the wrists.
  2. Traditional pans are quite high maintenance as it is difficult to clean and it is necessary to take extra care while storing and prone to rusting in humid environments.
  3. Modern users do not like the tedious seasoning process and thereby lose interest in self-cooked and home-cooked meals.
  4. Traditional cookware often needs extra oil while cooking.

Skillet

Skillets come in a variety of materials, including stainless steel, non-stick, and cast iron. They are ideal for everything, beginning from sautéing vegetables to searing meat. They are heavy-duty pots with tight-fitting covers, perfect for slow cooking, braising, and baking. They are usually made of cast iron or enamelled cast iron, which assures even heat distribution and excellent heat retention. 

As an Indian alternative, Pressure cooker pans serve as a versatile kitchen appliance, which combines the functionalities of oven and traditional pans. They excel at baking cakes, bread, and casseroles, while also roasting meats and vegetables with rich flavours and tenderness. Coupled with the sauté function, they enhance the cooking process by allowing browning and crying directly in the pot. In addition, it also allows steaming vegetables and seafood, preserving the nutrients and flavours.

Grill pans

They feature creased surfaces that impersonate outdoor grilling, which allows the customers to achieve beautiful grill marks and caramelization on meats, vegetables, and even fruits. They are suitable for cooking indoors when outdoor grilling is not possible, and provide the same delicious and appealing results with less trouble.

Woks

They are essential for Asian-inspired cooking and are characterized by their deep, rounded shape and sloped sides. They are appropriate for stir-frying, steaming, and deep-frying, and all the credit goes to their high heat conductivity and spacious cooking surface. 

For Indian cooks, Kadhai plays an essential role in place of Woks, as it offers versatility in cooking methods. Kadhai’s round shape and sloped sides help in stir-frying, required for preparing items such as vegetable stir-fry, noodles and fried rice. It’s deep design accommodates generous portions, making it ideal for sautéing vegetables, frying pakoras and simmering curries. Roasting pans

They are important for the preparation of large cuts of meat, poultry, and vegetables in the oven. They usually feature a rack that enhances the food above the pan, which allows for even air circulation and crispier results. Roasting pans are available in various sizes and materials, which include stainless steel, non-stick, and enamel-coated steel.

The recommendation is to choose the ideal pan for the work and to take proper care of it so that it will endure for years. Understanding the many sorts of pans available can allow you to elevate your cooking skills and impress your friends and family.
