You’re deciding between lash extensions or a lash lift. What’s the difference? Which one is better? Is there a clear winner here? It turns out that it is complicated. We want to help you make an informed decision about which treatment is best for you.
The first thing you need to understand is that they are two very different treatments.
Lash extensions that use adding something to enhance your natural eyelashes (synthetic fibers with a silk finish or mink finish – no animal products) can make them look longer and curlier than they actually are. Even if your lashes are very short and sparse, this can be done. There are some amazing techniques that can be used to enhance your lashes’ look.
Lash lifts, on the other hand, depend on natural lashes which are altered chemically to create a curled or lifted look. This is dependent on the shape of your natural lashes. You can add a tint to enhance the effect, which we recommend unless your lashes have already turned black. Even people with darker lashes will notice that the last few mm of their lashes are usually paler than the rest. A tint can create the illusion of longer, fuller lashes.
A lift is best for lashes that are long and full. The results may not be as impressive if your lashes are shorter or finer, or if you don’t naturally have enough. They will look curlier and darker if they are tinted, but it may not be the best treatment for you if your lashes aren’t naturally long.
The effect of lash extensions is dramatic and darker than lifts. If you want to achieve a particular look like a doll eye, staggered/Kim K, or cat eye, you can do it. Lifts are limited in that you can only do so much to your natural lashes. To curl them up and make them darker, apply a tint. We get asked if we can achieve a ‘cat eye effect’ using a lash lift. Without extensions, we cannot make your natural lashes grow longer. While we can adjust the curl angle (typically based on your lashes length), we cannot shape or style your lashes using a lift.
